NJ State Police hold food drive to benefit domestic violence shelters
NEW JERSEY – New Jersey State Police hosted a successful food drive on Nov. 12 to benefit domestic violence shelters.
Throughout the month of October, the New Jersey State Police organized their annual food drive in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This food drive provides residential and non-residential domestic violence programs that requested donations with non-perishable food for their clients during the Thanksgiving holiday.
Collection boxes were placed at every State Police station, NJ State House, NJ Forensic Science Technology Center, Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex, and participating County Offices of Victim Witness Advocacy.
“NJSP was overwhelmed by the generosity of all those who donated to this worthy cause. Due to the quantity of contributions, NJSP has been able to distribute substantial non-perishable food items to 18 participating county domestic violence programs throughout New Jersey,” state police said.
The food drive would not have been a success without assistance from the Troopers United Foundation whose contribution this year helped to double our overall donations; Troop D members and the NJ Turnpike Authority who transported these extra donations to Division Headquarters so they could be sorted for distribution throughout the State, state police siad.
“We would also like to sincerely thank the Community Outreach Bureau for delivering the donations to the 18 county domestic violence programs and the staff from the NJSP Warehouse who generously offered up space, so that we could store, sort and compile boxes for distribution and who were always willing to assist. The New Jersey State Police family truly worked together to ensure the success of this collection effort!,” state police said.
If you are someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, please call the domestic violence hotline at 1-800-572-SAFE (7233). This call is confidential, and services are available 24 hours.
