NJ Transit launches Jersey Journeys campaign to mark nation’s 250th anniversary

NEW JERSEY – NJ Transit on Tuesday launched a campaign encouraging residents and visitors to explore more than 150 historic sites across New Jersey as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.

The initiative, called “Jersey Journeys: Every Stop Tells a Story,” was announced at Liberty Hall on Kean University’s campus. It features an interactive map showing Revolutionary War battlefields, colonial homes, cultural museums and other landmarks accessible by NJ Transit bus, rail or light rail.

“I’m honored to support the ‘Jersey Journeys: Every Stop Tells a Story’ initiative – an innovative way for New Jerseyans and visitors alike to explore our rich heritage and better understand the role this state has played in shaping the nation,” said Sen. Joseph Cryan, D-Union. “By raising awareness that historic sites are accessible via public transit, NJ Transit is opening doors to discovery, strengthening civic pride and advancing education right in our own backyard.”

Sen. Patrick Diegnan, chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, called it “a dynamic way of highlighting the rich history New Jersey has played in shaping our nation. People from all over the world will be able to experience iconic landmarks easily within reach of the NJ Transit system.”

NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri said the campaign highlights how close the state’s history is to residents. “We’re proud to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday by offering customers a way to experience New Jersey’s heritage through public transportation,” Kolluri said.

Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet said the effort connects communities with their past while inspiring future generations. “The Jersey Journeys campaign is a fantastic opportunity to explore some of the oldest and most significant historical landmarks in our nation, right here in New Jersey,” Repollet said.

The Jersey Journeys interactive map is available at njtransit.com/journeys.

The campaign complements other NJ Transit travel-planning tools, including Transit to Trails, which highlights state parks, and Pizza & Pints, which maps more than 165 pizzerias, breweries and wineries across New Jersey.
