Traffic stop leads to arrest of wanted man, discovery of over $4K in stolen over-the-counter medication
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A traffic stop in Franklin Borough led to the arrest of a wanted man and the discovery of over $4,000 worth of stolen over-the-counter medication in his vehicle, according to police.
On January 23, Sparta Township Police Department received reports of a blue sedan traveling at high speed and improperly passing vehicles on Route 23 South in Hamburg Borough. The vehicle was eventually stopped in Franklin Borough, police said.
During the investigation, Luis A. Moure, 37, of New York, was found to have an outstanding nationwide extradition warrant from Virginia. Additionally, he was found in possession of counterfeit U.S. currency and was wanted by other New Jersey law enforcement agencies for using counterfeit bills and committing theft, police said.
Moure was charged with fourth-degree criminal simulation and was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending his appearance in Sussex County Superior Court, in accordance with the NJ Bail Reform Act. Extradition to Virginia will be arranged later, police said.
While Moure remained in custody, a search warrant was executed on his vehicle, revealing over $4,000 worth of stolen over-the-counter medication from multiple locations in northern New Jersey, police said.
As a result, Moure was charged with third-degree receiving stolen property. He was served with the additional complaint at the Morris County Correctional Facility, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and further enforcement actions may follow, police said.
