No evidence of tampering found at Riverdale Shell gas station, officials say

RIVERDALE BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The Riverdale Police Department has issued a clarification regarding a recent inspection of the Shell gas station at 36 Route 23 North, stating that no evidence of tampering, fraud or regulatory violations was found.

According to the department, the Morris County Division of Weights and Measures recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of the station’s fuel dispensing equipment while Riverdale police officers observed the process.

During the inspection, questions were raised about three fuel dispensers that contained screws near the area where fuel nozzles are secured when not in use.

Officials determined the screws were securing plastic components of the dispenser housing that had previously been damaged.

The Morris County Division of Weights and Measures found that the plastic nozzle holder assemblies on the three dispensers had been repaired by a certified dispenser technician and that the screws were installed as part of an approved repair.

According to the inspection findings, the screws were not connected to and did not affect the operation, accuracy or integrity of the fuel dispensing systems.

Upon completion of the inspection, the Morris County Division of Weights and Measures determined that all fuel dispensing equipment was operating properly and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Officials said no evidence of tampering, fraud or other violations was identified.

The Riverdale Police Department said it appreciated the efforts of the Morris County Division of Weights and Measures in conducting the inspection and providing clarification regarding the repairs.

The department said it remains committed to addressing community concerns and maintaining public confidence in local businesses and consumer protection measures.
