
No injuries reported in Sussex County house fire, cause under investigation
VERNON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – No injuries were reported in a house fire in Vernon Township on Sunday morning, and the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
On January 5, at around 6:30 a.m., police received emergency calls regarding an active structure fire at 33 Barry Drive North, authorities said.
Patrol units arrived on the scene within minutes and located the homeowner, who had safely exited the residence. By the time first responders arrived, most of the home was fully engulfed in flames, police said.
Multiple fire departments, including Highland Lakes, Vernon, McAfee, and Pochuck Valley, along with Vernon Emergency Medical Services and the Rehab unit, quickly responded and were able to successfully extinguish the fire, police said.
In addition to the local departments, several other agencies assisted with coordination and support, including the Vernon Township Detectives and Fire Marshal, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and Fire Marshal, Hardyston Township Fire Department, Warwick Fire Department, Hamburg Fire Department, West Milford Fire Department, and Sussex Fire Department.
The homeowner was not injured in the incident and did not require medical attention. Vernon Township OEM coordinated with the American Red Cross to offer further assistance to the homeowner, police said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said.
