No threat found after report of armed person entering Newton Medical Center

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – Police swarmed Newton Medical Center Friday after receiving a report of an armed person entering the building.

Upon receiving the report, Newton Medical Center immediately implemented lockdown procedures to ensure the safety of all patients, staff, and visitors, police said.

Officers from the Newton Police Department, supported by several other law enforcement agencies, swiftly arrived at the scene, police said.

“The individual was promptly located, and a thorough investigation determined that there was no threat to the public,” police said.

The lockdown was then lifted, and normal operations at the medical center resumed, police said.

“The Newton Police Department extends its gratitude to the community for their cooperation and vigilance during this incident. We commend the staff at Newton Medical Center for their quick and efficient response, and we express our appreciation to our mutual aid agencies for their invaluable assistance,” police said.
