North Jersey wildlife refuge urges community to provide water for wildlife amid drought

The Last Resort Wildlife Refuge, located in Hewitt, is calling on the community to help support local wildlife during this extreme drought.

With wildfires displacing animals and many natural water sources dried up, the refuge is seeing an alarming increase in wildlife arriving with critical dehydration.

In a statement, the refuge emphasized the importance of providing water for not only larger animals but also for birds and insects. “Any shallow dish or vessel will do,” they said, encouraging residents to place water outside for wildlife to access. To ensure the safety of small creatures, the refuge advises adding rocks or sticks to the water to prevent drowning.

As the drought continues to impact the region, the Last Resort Wildlife Refuge is relying on the community’s support to help vulnerable wildlife survive during this challenging time.
