Ogdensburg puts three borough ambulances up for auction, with bidding ending Nov. 4

OGDENSBURG BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — Ogdensburg Borough is auctioning three ambulances through an online government auction, offering buyers an opportunity to repurpose the vehicles while generating revenue for the municipality.

The auctions are open to the public through Municibid and will close Wednesday, Nov. 4. Interested buyers can place bids online at any time before the auctions end.

According to Municibid, 100% of the proceeds from the sales will go back to the Borough of Ogdensburg. The funds can be used for municipal needs, including road maintenance, community events, public safety initiatives and local programs.

The three vehicles available for auction are a 1990 Ford E350 ambulance and fire utility vehicle, a 1997 Ford Eco Van ambulance and a 2007 Ford E450 Super Duty ambulance.

The 1997 Ford Eco Van has 53,165 miles and is equipped with a 7.3-liter V8 Powerstroke diesel engine. The 2007 Ford E450 Super Duty has 32,446 miles and features a 6.0-liter V8 Powerstroke diesel engine.

Municibid is promoting the vehicles as potential conversion projects for travelers and do-it-yourself enthusiasts interested in transforming former emergency vehicles into campers or recreational vehicles.

The company noted that repurposing retired ambulances has become an option for people seeking customized vehicles for road trips, weekend getaways and other travel activities.

Depending on their plans, buyers could convert the ambulances to include sleeping areas, kitchen facilities, televisions or other amenities.

Municibid highlighted a previous auction winner who converted an ambulance into a motor home for family camping trips.

“I have resuscitated a former ambulance and brought it back to life as a motor home that we affectionately call the ‘campulance’. I have no prior experience with conversions and it has proven no easy feat, but I have enjoyed the lengthy process, and more so next spring/summer when we hope to take the kids camping.” – Ethan K.

The auction platform also featured an example of a football fan who transformed a former ambulance purchased through Municibid into a tailgating vehicle for New England Patriots games.

The Ogdensburg auctions are part of Municibid’s online government auction platform, which allows members of the public to bid on surplus municipal equipment and vehicles.

Residents and other interested buyers can view the available ambulances and participate in the auctions at Municibid.com.

Bidding closes Wednesday, Nov. 4.
