Overturned dump truck causes oil spill in Washington Township, Morris County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Emergency crews responded Wednesday morning to an overturned dump truck on Naughright Road that caused a significant engine oil leak heading toward a storm sewer, officials said.

The Long Valley Fire Company was notified by Morris County Dispatch at approximately 7:43 a.m. and quickly responded to the scene. Firefighters, assisted by the Washington Township Department of Public Works, contained the spill using granular absorbent and spill pads to create a dike.

Morris County Hazmat responded to assist with spill cleanup monitoring, while Washington Township Police handled traffic control and a temporary road closure.

The fire company cleared the scene and returned to service in just over an hour. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it was not immediately known if anyone was injured.
