PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — Parsippany Tax Collector Terrence Whalen was found dead inside an office at Town Hall late Wednesday night, according to police.
Parsippany Police Detective Lt. Brian Conover told RNJ that the department’s Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sept. 23 reporting an unresponsive man at Parsippany Town Hall, 1001 Parsippany Blvd.
The caller was an employee of the cleaning service contracted by town hall, Conover said.
Responding officers found 59-year-old township employee Terrence Whalen unresponsive inside an office. Whalen was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Members of the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Branch, Morris County Crime Scene Investigation Section and Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
Police said there is no indication of foul play at this time.
Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai released a statement mourning Whalen’s death.
“Today, the Parsippany family suffered a heartbreaking loss.
“One of our longtime Township employees, Terry Whalen, passed away while at work. He was a good man, a dedicated employee, and someone who spent many years serving our community alongside his colleagues and friends.
“There are people who quietly come to work every day, do their job, serve their community, and become part of the fabric of this Township. He was one of those people.
“My thoughts are first and foremost with his family, his loved ones, and his coworkers who are grieving this sudden loss.
“In Parsippany, we take care of each other. Tonight, one of our own is gone, and we mourn together.
“Out of respect for his family, we will share additional information when appropriate.”
