Pedestrian critically injured in Morris County crash involving off-duty sheriff’s officer

NETCONG BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) —  A 46-year-old pedestrian remains hospitalized in critical condition following a crash Monday night on Route 46 West in Netcong involving an off-duty Morris County sheriff’s officer, according to Meghan Knab, public information officer for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on July 14 when police were notified of a collision between a Chevrolet Tahoe and a pedestrian. Responding officers found the male pedestrian unresponsive at the scene and began CPR. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Tahoe, identified as an off-duty sheriff’s officer, was also taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. Authorities say the officer is cooperating with the investigation.

In accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Directive 2019-4, the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability was notified and has assigned the investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police.
