
Pedestrian killed in Route 22 crash in Hunterdon County
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday evening on Route 22 East near Mountain Road, authorities said.
According to Readington Township Police Chief Steven Rindock, officers responded to the scene at approximately 8:26 p.m. and located the victim in the center median in cardiac arrest. Emergency Medical Technicians from Whitehouse Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center attempted life-saving measures before transporting the victim to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s trauma center in New Brunswick, where the victim was later pronounced dead.
The driver, an 87-year-old man from Bound Brook, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators, police said.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Readington Township Police Department at 908-534-4031.
