HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A pedestrian struck and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Hackettstown on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened at around 10:52 a.m. in front of the CVS Pharmacy (85 Main Street), officials said.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that a 2018 GMC Canyon, driven by a 61-year-old man from Flanders, was traveling westbound on Route 46 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk, authorities said.
The pedestrian was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.
The driver was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Route 46 (Main Street) was closed between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street for the investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Independence Township First Aid Squad, Saint Clare’s Paramedics, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
