Phillipsburg officer named ‘Hometown Hero’ for stopping suspect in shooting outside daycare
PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — Officer Brandon Hull of the Phillipsburg Police Department has been recognized as the final honoree in Congressman Tom Kean Jr.’s 2025 Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes program.
Earlier this year, Hull responded to a shooting outside a local daycare where nearly 20 rounds had been fired. According to Kean’s office, Hull identified a suspect attempting to flee the scene and, along with fellow officers, initiated a felony vehicle stop. The arrest led to the recovery of a handgun with an illegal extended magazine.
“Officer Hull’s courage and commitment to safeguarding the citizens of Phillipsburg reflect the very best of law enforcement. On behalf of NJ-07, thank you to Officer Hull and the entire Phillipsburg Police Department for your unwavering dedication and service to the community,” Kean said in announcing the recognition.
Kean launched his second annual Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes initiative in May 2025 during National Police Week. The program honors exceptional law enforcement officers across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District who were nominated by their department chiefs or supervisors.
“Every day, the brave men and women of law enforcement put themselves in harm’s way to protect our families, neighborhoods, and communities,” Kean said. “Here in New Jersey, we are fortunate to be served by officers who lead with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of duty. I am honored to recognize many of these individuals through my annual Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes initiative. These officers are not only protectors of public safety—they are mentors, lifesavers, and community leaders. Thanks to these officers’ courage and commitment, the families in our district are safer and our towns stronger.”
Each Hometown Hero has been spotlighted by Kean throughout the year for going above and beyond in their duty to protect and serve.
