Phillipsburg police seek public’s help locating man wanted on contempt, assault charges

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — Phillipsburg police are asking for the public’s help in locating a Warren County man wanted on charges stemming from two August incidents after he failed to appear in court on several occasions.

According to a notice from the department, a bench warrant was issued on Oct. 9, 2025, for Brian C. Gates, 37, after he missed multiple scheduled court appearances. He is charged with contempt of court for violating conditions of a court order connected to an Aug. 27 incident and simple assault related to an Aug. 20 incident.

Police released a photo and physical description in an effort to locate him. Gates is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.

His current whereabouts are unknown, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Phillipsburg Police Department at 908-835-2002. Callers may remain anonymous.
