Planned emergency power outage and road closures in Newton on February 28 for pole replacement

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A planned emergency power outage will take place in Newton starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, and continue until the work is completed, which is estimated to be between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.

The outage is necessary to replace a broken pole. Approximately 11 customers in the High Street area, including 3 county facilities, will be affected. Route 94SB/High Street traffic will be detoured to 206SB/Main Street via Liberty Street, while truck traffic will be detoured to Willows Road in Andover Township, back to Route 94SB. Additional notifications from the NJ DOT can be found on NJ511.org.

“It is important for JCP&L to complete this work during a planned outage to ensure the safety of the crews installing equipment and to prevent potential emergency outages in the future,” officials said.

Road closures may be extended as utilities work to re-establish connections at the pole. The closure could last until Sunday, March 2.
