Police arrest wanted teen following attempted vehicle break-ins, crash in Warren County

WASHINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Warren County) — A 17-year-old male wanted in the NCIC database was taken into custody on Nov. 24 after Washington Township police responded to reports of attempted vehicle break-ins in Washington Borough and later found a crashed stolen vehicle, authorities said.

Police said officers were dispatched around 1:39 a.m. to the area of Washington Square Circle for a report of multiple people attempting to break into vehicles. During the investigation, officers obtained a description of a possible suspect vehicle.

A short time later, the vehicle was located in the 500 block of Brass Castle Road, where it had been involved in a single-vehicle crash.

With assistance from the Pohatcong Township Police K-9 Unit and the New Jersey State Police, officers located the juvenile. After confirming his identity, police determined he was listed in the NCIC system as a wanted and missing person, police said.

The vehicle involved in the crash was later confirmed to have been stolen. The juvenile was transported to a medical facility and then turned over to another law enforcement agency.

The incident remains under investigation.
