Police charge man with DWI after reported hit-and-run crash in Hunterdon County
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 60-year-old Clinton man was arrested Nov. 22 on charges of driving while intoxicated after police located a vehicle believed to be involved in a reported hit-and-run crash earlier that night in Clinton, authorities said.
According to Clinton Township police, Hunterdon County Communications issued a stop-and-hold alert for a gray Nissan connected to the earlier crash. Officers later saw the vehicle pull into the Exxon gas station at Route 31 North and Payne Road and conducted a motor vehicle stop.
Police identified the driver as Anthony J. D’Andrea, who, according to the department, exhibited “obvious signs of impairment.” D’Andrea was asked to exit the vehicle for Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, but police said the tests were not completed as directed. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and his vehicle was impounded.
D’Andrea was taken to police headquarters for processing, where chemical breath testing showed his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit, police said.
He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, possession of an open, unsealed alcoholic beverage container, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, according to police. After receiving copies of the charges, he was transported to the Hunterdon County Jail.
