Police chase that began in Morris County ends with two arrests in Wayne woods
WAYNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Passaic County) — Two men from East Orange were arrested earlier this month after a police pursuit that began in Lincoln Park and ended in the woods off Route 80 in Wayne, authorities said.
According to the Wayne Police Department, the incident began around 2:43 a.m. on Oct. 9 when Lincoln Park police pursued a Honda Civic wanted in connection with a burglary. The chase entered Wayne via Route 202, where local police joined to assist.
The vehicle lost control on the ramp from Route 23 South to Interstate 80 East, and two men fled into the wooded area between the highways. The driver continued onto Interstate 80 with Lincoln Park police in pursuit. Authorities did not say whether the driver was later apprehended.
Wayne police, joined by surrounding departments and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter and launched a search for the suspects. A police drone detected a heat signature in the woods, leading officers to the suspects’ locations.
Authorities said one man, 20, was found hiding near a storm sewer, and the second, 18, was located in dense foliage nearby. Both were taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Lincoln Park Police Department.
The suspects were charged with burglary and related offenses, police said.
