Police: Scammers pose as pastors, bosses and send texts or emails asking for gift cards

BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Blairstown Township police say scammers are posing as pastors or bosses and have been sending out texts or emails asking for gift cards.

Several area businesses and churches have advised police that employees and church members have received emails and or text messages with a person pretending to be their boss or pastor, authorities said.

The scammers further request the person go to a store and purchase Visa gift cards or other gift cards and send them the pictures of the front and back of the cards, police said.

According to police, these messages have been particularly convincing as the scammer seems to be mimicking the impersonated person with a similar email signature to what the pastor or employer typically uses.

If you feel a message may be suspicious, contact the Blairstown Township Police Department at 908-362-8266.
