Police warn of check fraud linked to Great Meadows Post Office

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Independence Township police have received numerous reports of check fraud involving residents mailing payments from the Great Meadows Post Office at 4 Regina Lane.

Officials say unknown individuals are intercepting checks during the mail distribution process and altering the “pay to” information. Many victims only become aware of the fraud after receiving delinquency notices from the original payees.

Police have notified the postal inspector but continue to receive reports from affected residents.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when mailing checks from this location.
