Project Self-Sufficiency offering free office skills training program for women

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Project Self-Sufficiency will offer a free eight-week Summer Office Skills training program for women beginning in July, providing instruction in computer skills, interviewing techniques and workplace readiness.

The program will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 7 through Aug. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the organization’s campus at 127 Mill St. in Newton.

Participants will also receive on-the-job training through externship placements at businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout Sussex County. Worksite schedules will vary based on employer needs.

According to Project Self-Sufficiency, the program is designed to prepare women for entry-level office administrative positions through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on work experience.

The training includes lessons in computer skills, career preparation, job-search strategies, life skills and interviewing techniques.

Over the years, Project Self-Sufficiency has partnered with local employers and organizations to provide participants with real-world workplace experience while helping them strengthen office and technology skills.

Women interested in participating are encouraged to attend one of several upcoming open houses to learn more about the program and complete an application.

Open houses will be held Wednesdays at 4 p.m. on May 27, June 10, June 17 and June 24, as well as Fridays at 10 a.m. on May 29, June 5 and June 12 at Project Self-Sufficiency’s Newton campus.

The Summer Office Skills program is free and open to Project Self-Sufficiency participants. Interested applicants must apply and be accepted into the program.
