Crews battle overnight garage fire in Warren County
KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a late-night structure fire Saturday in Knowlton Township, battling heavy smoke and flames in freezing conditions, officials said.
The Knowlton Township Fire and Rescue Company said crews were dispatched at about 11:26 p.m. to a reported structure fire in the Centerville area of Knowlton Road. A first-alarm assignment was requested, bringing additional units from the Blairstown Hose Company, Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Portland Hook and Ladder, Allamuchy Fire Department, Mount Lake Fire Company, Good Will Fire Company and the Blairstown Ambulance Corps.
First-arriving engines from Knowlton and Blairstown found heavy smoke inside a garage and fire coming from the eaves of the building, officials said. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines, knocked down the bulk of the fire and checked for extension into the home.
Crews remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul operations, dealing with stubborn pockets of fire that were difficult to access due to structural damage, officials said. Operations took place in freezing temperatures.
The Green Township Fire Department provided coverage for the area while crews were committed to the incident. Jersey Central Power & Light and the Warren County Road Department also assisted at the scene, officials said.
All units were cleared and back in service by about 9 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately released.
