Project Self-Sufficiency opens free prom dress shop for teens
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Teens preparing for prom season can pick out free formal wear and accessories at Project Self-Sufficiency’s annual “Sister-to-Sister” Prom Shop in Newton.
The program offers new and gently used prom dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses and other formal gowns, along with accessories such as evening bags, jewelry, wraps, shawls and shoes. All items are available at no cost.
The prom shop is set up in a boutique-style setting at Project Self-Sufficiency’s campus, where visitors can browse the collection and try on dresses.
“We are delighted to be offering teens the opportunity to receive beautiful gowns and accessories free of charge at the ‘Sister-to-Sister’ Prom Shop,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “We believe that every young woman deserves the chance to have a beautiful dress for that special, once-in-a-lifetime event.”
Berry-Toon said community donations have made it possible to offer hundreds of formal items again this year.
The public is invited to attend and no appointment is required.
