Second teen charged in Phillipsburg shooting investigation

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. — A second 17-year-old has been charged in connection with a shooting last week on the 100 block of Henderson Street, authorities said.

According to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, officers responded at about 4:17 p.m. Aug. 5 after the town’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire. Police found several spent shell casings at Henderson and Wilson streets and bullet holes in a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Video footage from the area led investigators to identify a suspect. The first juvenile charged last week faces aggravated assault for firing a handgun at a victim, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief for damaging the parked vehicle.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, the second juvenile was charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy to commit possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief for damage to the parked vehicle.

The charges for the second juvenile were issued Aug. 6, and that individual turned themselves in at the Phillipsburg Police Department on Aug. 9.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Warren County Regional Crime Scene Team, New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit, and NJSP Strategic Investigations Unit assisted in the investigation.
