DOVER, N.J. (Morris County) — The Quiet Man Irish Pub, a longtime fixture in downtown Dover, will close its doors later this month after serving the community for 47 years.
In a message to customers, the Burke family announced the restaurant and Irish pub, located at 64 E. McFarlan St., will close permanently, with its final day of business scheduled for Aug. 29.
The family said the decision follows nearly six years of trying to sell the business in hopes that a new owner would continue its legacy.
“This decision did not come easily. Many of you know that we have been trying to sell the business for nearly six years. We explored every opportunity because our sincere hope was that someone would continue the tradition and keep The Quiet Man Legacy alive for generations to come. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the time has come for us to say goodbye.”
The Quiet Man was opened in 1979 by Frank and Anne Burke, who emigrated from Ireland. Over the decades, the family said the pub became more than just a restaurant.
“Since our Parents Frank and Anne from Ireland opened the doors in 1979, The Quiet Man has been so much more than a Restaurant and Irish pub. It has been a gathering place where friendships were made, families celebrated milestones, and countless memories were created.”
The Burke family thanked customers, friends, employees and the community for supporting the business throughout its nearly five decades in operation.
“None of this would have been possible without you. Your loyalty, kindness, and support over the past 47 years have meant more to our family and amazing Staff than words can express.”
The family invited patrons to visit during the restaurant’s final weeks.
“We invite you to stop in during our final weeks to enjoy a meal, raise one last glass, and share your favorite memories with us.”
The announcement concluded with a message of gratitude.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives and for making The Quiet Man such a truly special place.”
The Quiet Man Irish Pub has long been known as a gathering place in Dover, serving traditional Irish fare and hosting community events since opening in 1979.
