Rockaway Township named 2024 ‘Healthy Town’ by New Jersey Mayors Wellness Campaign
ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Rockaway Township has been honored as a 2024 ‘Healthy Town’ by the New Jersey Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC), recognizing the municipality’s dedication to improving health and wellness through innovative community programs.
The award highlights efforts in promoting physical activity, healthy eating, and mental health awareness.
“I am extremely proud that Rockaway Township has earned a 2024 Healthy Town designation,” said Mayor Joe Jackson. “My administration, through the collaborative planning of engaging community programs and events, has embraced the Mayors Wellness Campaign and has found it to be a very valuable way of demonstrating our commitment to health, wellness, and social connectivity in our community.”
This recognition comes after a year of health-focused initiatives led by Mayor Jackson and the Township’s Division of Health. Programs have included a variety of nutrition and exercise initiatives, mental health workshops, wellness activities, and a six-week community walking challenge that saw over 100 residents participate, collectively achieving nearly 31 million steps.
“We look forward to the Township’s continued participation in the Mayors Wellness Campaign, and further success in helping elevate the physical, social, and mental health of our residents,” added Mayor Jackson.
The New Jersey Mayors Wellness Campaign, a program of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, aims to inspire municipalities across the state to foster healthier environments for residents to live, work, age, and play.
