USPS, New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to close for Thanksgiving holiday

The U.S. Postal Service and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will suspend services on Thanksgiving Day in observance of the federal and state holiday.

U.S. Postal Service
The Postal Service said all Post Office locations will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and there will be no regular mail delivery. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered that day. Normal mail delivery and retail operations will resume Friday, Nov. 28.

Customers who need to ship packages, buy stamps or access other basic services can use one of more than 2,600 self-service kiosks available in select Post Office lobbies nationwide. These kiosks offer postage printing for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipments, as well as package weighing, shipping and tracking services.

USPS said additional self-service options are expanding as part of its retail modernization, including:
• Rapid Dropoff Stations for prepaid packages
• Label printing for QR-code-based merchant labels
• USPS Smart Lockers for 24/7 package drop-off and pickup

Many of these kiosks and equipment stations are accessible around the clock, even when counters are closed for the holiday. More information is available at usps.com.

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission announced that all MVC agencies, road-testing sites and inspection stations will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, in observance of the state holiday.

While facilities will be closed, the MVC’s website, NJMVC.gov, will remain available 24/7. The site provides access to more than 25 online services, including license and registration renewals, appointments and information on REAL ID requirements.

The MVC notes that nearly all in-person services — such as permits, driver testing, REAL ID processing, new titles and registrations — require an appointment scheduled through the website.
