Route 206 northbound lane closures extended through Jan. 1 for gas main work in Byram Township

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Lane closures on Route 206 northbound in Byram Township will remain in place through Jan. 1, 2026, as crews continue priority gas main installation work that is taking longer than expected, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced.

The right northbound lane near Brookwood Road — milepost 99.35, by the shopping center — has been closed since Nov. 10. DOT officials said access to the shopping center will continue during construction.

Beginning this week, the left northbound lane is also being closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Saturday, with traffic shifted onto Route 206 southbound. One lane will remain open in each direction during the overnight work.

The closures are necessary to accommodate New Jersey Natural Gas Company’s ongoing gas main installation, DOT said. The work is expected to continue through Jan. 1.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution, and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

For more information, New Jersey Natural Gas can be reached at 1-800-221-0051. Travelers can check www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time traffic conditions.

DOT said all work is weather dependent and subject to change.
