Route 46 overnight lane closures to begin Tuesday in Morris County

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Overnight lane closures on Route 46 are scheduled to begin Tuesday in Morris County as part of a pavement preservation project, transportation officials said.

A mobile operation is scheduled from 8 p.m. Monday, May 4, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, on Route 46 eastbound and westbound between Williams Street in Mine Hill and Crestview Road in Denville. The work involves slurry seal application over rumble strips.

Beginning Tuesday night, May 5, and continuing Monday through Friday nights for approximately two weeks, a single lane will be closed overnight in both directions along the same stretch of roadway. Work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with at least one lane remaining open at all times.

Officials said the closures are necessary to apply slurry seal, with work expected to begin in the right lane and shift to the left lane as the project progresses.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zone.

The work is part of a $6.5 million federally funded project to preserve approximately six miles of pavement on Route 46 in Mine Hill, Wharton, Dover, Rockaway Township, Rockaway Borough and Denville.

Transportation officials said pavement preservation projects help extend the life of roadways by improving surface conditions and providing a smoother and safer ride.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check 511nj.org for real-time travel information.
