Roxbury Township launches Hometown Heroes Banner Program to honor local veterans

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County)  – The Township of Roxbury Township, in partnership with the Roxbury VFW, is excited to announce the launch of the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, a new initiative designed to honor local veterans who have served in the military.

This program aims to raise awareness of both past and current Roxbury Township residents—our “Hometown Heroes”—who have bravely served in the United States military.

As part of the program, each honored veteran will have a banner proudly displayed at one of three locations: Horseshoe Lake Park, Landing Park, or Main Street Succasunna. The banners, which will include the name and photograph of each veteran, will be professionally produced and displayed from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. After Veterans Day, the banners will be removed and presented to the veteran or their sponsor as a lasting memento.

Applicants can request their preferred banner location, which will be honored if space is available at the requested site.

How to Apply:
Residents are encouraged to nominate a deserving local veteran by submitting an application online at www.roxburynj.us/hometownheroes.

Deadline:
Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2025.

The Roxbury VFW will underwrite the cost of producing the banners. The production costs may vary each year depending on the program’s expenses and the VFW’s subsidy. The program is open to both active and non-active military personnel, and it is available to past or current Roxbury Township residents who have served in the military and have been honorably or medically discharged.

Applicants are asked to submit a photograph of the veteran, with preference given to images of them in uniform. If no photograph is available, a banner without a photo can still be produced.

For more information or to address any questions about the program, contact John Shepherd, Township Manager, at 973-448-2002 or via email at shepherdj@roxburynj.us.

This program provides a unique opportunity for the Roxbury community to honor the brave individuals who have served our country and ensure they receive the recognition they deserve.
