Sen. Andy Kim to host resource fair to assist residents affected by federal government shutdown

BRANCHBURG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — Senator Andy Kim announced that his office will host a North Jersey Shutdown Resource Fair on Monday, October 6, at Raritan Valley Community College, aimed at helping residents navigate the impacts of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The event, which will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. at the college’s Conference Center, will feature more than 40 participating organizations and agencies providing information and assistance on a range of issues, including healthcare, financial aid, and social services. A second fair will be held in South Jersey later this month.

“We have received thousands of messages and calls to our office in the 72 hours, and being back home in Jersey yesterday reinforced these messages; Our residents need real help as the Trump Administration continues to play politics with their lives,” said Senator Andy Kim. “My office heard these calls loud and clear and I am proud to be able to offer this resource fair to those who needs assistance now that the federal government has shut down so that they can find solutions at the local and state levels.”

Attendees will be able to connect directly with local, county, and state offices as well as nonprofit and aid organizations. Available resources will cover:

  • Financial aid for higher education
  • Applying for NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) and GetCoveredNJ (ACA)
  • Disability, veteran, and senior services
  • Legislative, county, and state office representatives
  • The NJ Office of the Attorney General — Division on Civil Rights and Division of Consumer Affairs
  • Food and energy assistance programs
  • Red Cross disaster and emergency resources
  • Domestic violence and child support assistance

The North Jersey Shutdown Resource Fair is free and open to the public. It will be held at Raritan Valley Community College, 118 Lamington Road, Branchburg.
