Senator Space honors families of fallen service members with memorial highway

NEW JERSEY – The Senate Transportation Committee Thursday voted in favor of bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Parker Space (R-24) that would rename the Blue Star Memorial Highway as the Blue and Gold Star Memorial Highway system.

Blue and Gold Star Memorial Highways are tributes to the armed forces of the United States. The Blue Star specifically honors those in active service. The addition of Gold Star recognizes the immediate families of those who died while serving.

“It’s important to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation and the enduring strength of Blue and Gold Star families,” said Sen. Space. “This designation commemorates the bravery of our service members and is a fitting tribute to those families who have shared in the sacrifice.”

The legislation mirrors efforts in other states that do the same. It is being championed by the Garden Club of New Jersey and its local chapters who sponsor and maintain the Blue and Gold Star Memorial markers throughout the state.
