Small earthquake recorded in Hunterdon County

CALIFON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A small earthquake struck near Califon on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The magnitude 1.6 quake was recorded at 2 km east-northeast of Califon at 2:46 p.m. EDT (18:46:36 UTC) on Oct. 20, 2025. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).

According to the USGS, about 15 people reported feeling light shaking in the area through the agency’s “Did You Feel It?” system.

No damage or injuries were reported.
