Somerset County Abduction Response Team conducts mock child abduction drill at Duke Island Park

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — The Somerset County Abduction Response Team (CART) conducted a mock child abduction exercise on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Duke Island Park as part of its effort to earn certification through the AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative.

The training simulated the investigation and response to a missing or abducted child, testing coordination, communication, and response procedures among multiple agencies.

Personnel from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerset County Office of Emergency Management, Bridgewater Township Police Department, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, and the Somerset County Park Commission participated in the exercise.

The certification process is overseen by the National Criminal Justice Training Center at Fox Valley Technical College, in partnership with the Department of Justice, to ensure communities across the nation are prepared to respond effectively to child abduction cases.

Officials said the training represented an important step in the county’s ongoing pursuit of CART certification.
