Suspect sleeping in car faces DUI, weapon charges in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A suspect found sleeping in his car in Denville Township is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and unlawful possession of a handgun, according to police.

On January 10 at 6:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hardman Terrace. Upon arrival, they found 34-year-old Russell Ebersole asleep at the wheel with several empty beer cans inside the car, police said.

The officer conducted an investigation and determined Ebersole was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. During a search of the vehicle for evidence, the officer discovered an empty bullet casing, which led to the finding of an illegal handgun inside the car. Police also noted that Ebersole had previously been carrying the weapon on his person.

Ebersole was charged with DUI and unlawful possession of a weapon/handgun without a permit. He was lodged at the Morris County Correctional Facility.
