SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — Sussex County officials recently toured all six branches of the county library system, highlighting the range of services offered and the role libraries play in the community.
Commissioner Director Jill Space and Commissioner Alan Henderson visited each facility alongside County Library Director Will Porter and Associate Director Ellen Callanan.
During the tour, officials reviewed programs and resources available to residents, including traditional book lending, children’s activities, technology services and nontraditional items such as cookware available for borrowing.
“It is amazing to see how much our county libraries have to offer and how widely they are utilized throughout Sussex County,” said Commissioner Henderson. “For example, the Vernon Branch Library served 53,000 visitors last year, while the Sussex-Wantage Branch welcomed even more, with 73,000 visitors. This clearly demonstrates that our libraries are an essential service and a vital resource for county residents.”
Officials said the system continues to expand services beyond traditional expectations, offering programs and tools for residents of all ages.
“Many people may still think of libraries as simply as a place to borrow books,” said Director Space. “However, our county libraries offer far more services that benefit individuals of all ages and interests. They provide printing services for business needs, host engaging programs for children, and even lend out free audiobooks for the public to use. For me personally, I used to rely on a subscription service for audiobooks; however, now I use the Sussex County Library’s free app which has an extensive collection of audiobooks that the public can listen to. I strongly encourage every resident to visit and take advantage of these outstanding facilities.”
The Sussex County Library System operates six branches located in Hopatcong, Newton, Franklin, Vernon, Wantage and Frankford. Officials encouraged residents to visit their local library or explore services available online.
