Sussex County Community College cuts cost of Credit for Prior Learning program

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Sussex County Community College (SCCC) has reduced the cost of its Credit for Prior Learning program, making it more affordable for students to earn academic credit for their existing knowledge and experience.

Under the new pricing structure, students will pay just $50 per credit hour, down from the previous rate. For a typical three-credit course, this represents a savings of nearly $200.

The Credit for Prior Learning program allows students to convert professional, military, or life experience into college credit through a structured assessment process. SCCC evaluates each applicant’s background to determine whether their knowledge aligns with the learning objectives of specific courses.

“This initiative offers a smart, cost-effective way for working adults and others with relevant experience to advance more quickly toward graduation,” the college said in a statement. “It also reduces the financial burden on students balancing education with work, family and other responsibilities.”

The college encourages students interested in the program to contact the Student Success Center at advising@sussex.edu or call the Admissions Office at 973-300-2223 for more information.
