Sussex County Library launches ‘Reading Rocks’ summer program with Braen Stone, Miners

NEWTON, N.J. — The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) has announced a new partnership with Braen Stone and the Sussex County Miners to expand its Summer Reading offerings for young readers this August.

The “Reading Rocks” program, running from August 1 through August 31, invites children ages 2 to 12 to explore books about earth science, geology, and mining for a chance to earn a prize box filled with themed goodies.

Participants can stop by any SCLS branch beginning August 1 to register, pick up a reading log, and select five books from the Braen-Book Reading Lists. Once the reading is completed and the log sheet returned by August 31, each child will receive a prize box containing a Braen Stone T-shirt, two tickets to a 2026 Sussex County Miners game, books and magazines, and other items provided by Braen Stone. Prize boxes will be distributed in September.

To kick off the program, a launch event will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at the Main Library, located at 125 Morris Turnpike in Newton. The event will feature stories, music, activities, and additional information about the Reading Rocks program.
