Sussex County man charged with eluding cops on motorcycle

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man is facing a slew of charges after allegedly eluding Byram Township police on his motorcycle.

On June 8, at around 2:40 a.m., an officer observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 206, police said.

The officer then stopped the motorcycle and discovered that the driver, who was identified as Giuseppe A. Iannetta, 25, of Newton, was driving without a license, police said.

He was issued a summons for driving without a license and released to a family member, police said.

Then at around 3:56 a.m., officers observed the same motorcycle traveling Route 206 northbound at a high rate of speed, in front of the same vehicle that picked up Iannetta earlier, police said.

When officers attempted to stop the motorcycle by activating emergency lights and siren, the motorcycle took of at a high rate of speed, police said.

Officers disengaged from the attempted motor vehicle stop of the motorcycle, and initiated a motor vehicle stop of the Cadillac that had initially picked up Iannetta and was now following the motorcycle. The driver of the Cadillac confirmed that they had just brought him to pick up his motorcycle and that he was currently riding it back to their apartment, police said.

Newton Police Department informed Byram officers that they had located the motorcycle in at the Sparta Avenue Apartment in Newton. Byram officers responded and arrested Iannetta and impounded his motorcycle, police said.

Iannetta was charged with second-degree eluding, driving without a license, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to yield right of way to emergency vehicle, failure to move right for emergency vehicles, failure to notify DMV of address change on ID only. He was then released to a family member pending a court appearance, police said.
