
Sussex County teen charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses after large street dispute
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A 17-year-old Franklin Borough resident was arrested on the night of June 5 following a large dispute involving multiple juveniles on Main Street near LaRue Street, during which one juvenile sustained significant injuries, police said.
According to the Franklin Borough Police Department, officers responded to the scene and located the suspect shortly after the reported altercation. During the encounter, the teen was allegedly found in possession of an imitation firearm concealed on their person. Investigators later determined that the weapon had not been used or brandished during the earlier incident.
The Franklin Borough Detective Bureau and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation. As a result, the teen was charged via a juvenile delinquency complaint with second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and fourth-degree possession of a weapon by a person under the age of 21.
The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian pending an appearance in Sussex County Superior Court, Family Division, in accordance with New Jersey’s Bail Reform and Juvenile Justice Reform Acts.
