ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A teen was charged and two others are being sought after police recovered a stolen car in Andover Township.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, an officer was monitoring traffic on County Route 611 (Greendale Road) and observed a suspicious vehicle park in a resident’s driveway near the street and turn its lights off, police said.

Upon checking the now unoccupied vehicle’s North Carolina registration, dispatch advised the vehicle was reported stolen on Sept. 14, police said.

Officers heard people running through the wooded area adjacent to homes on Huntsville Road. Several agencies assisted searching the area and one person was located with the assistance of Sussex County Sheriff’s Officer Scott and K9 Ace, police said.

A 14-year-old Newton boy was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He was then released his mother, police said.

“Two remaining occupants were not located. The investigation is ongoing,” police said.

Police remind residents to secure their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity in a timely manner.
