Thieves break into Hunterdon County home to steal key fobs, high-end vehicle parked in garage
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Police say thieves are wanted for breaking into a Readington Township home and stealing key fobs and a high-end vehicle.
On Tuesday morning, officers and detectives discovered that multiple suspects had gained entry into a residence undetected overnight and removed key fobs to high-end vehicles, police said.
The key fobs were then used to steal a vehicle from the garage, police said.
“These types of crimes have been pervasive in New Jersey recently, and the Readington Township Police Department and our law enforcement partners are committed to deterring these crimes and investigating them vigorously when they do,” police said.
Police offer these tips to aid in not becoming a victim:
- Ensure that all car doors are secured each evening.
- Do not leave keys inside the vehicle. A spare key FOB left inside a vehicle will prevent the vehicle from locking.
- Ensure all windows to your home are secured each night. This is especially important with the springtime weather when windows may be opened during the day.
- Ensure all doors to your home are locked.
- Consider installing home surveillance cameras. If you have them, periodically ensure that they are functioning properly.
- If you see something suspicious, report it to the police department immediately
The Readington Township Police Department will be increasing patrols in areas that are typically targeted for these crimes, police said.
