Tractor-trailer hauling cookies overturns, catches fire after crash on I-287 in Somerset County

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A tractor-trailer hauling chocolate chip cookies overturned and caught fire early Friday after a collision with another tractor-trailer on Interstate 287 in Bridgewater Township, authorities said.

State troopers responded to the crash at 2:35 a.m. on the southbound side of I-287 at milepost 13.2, according to New Jersey State Police spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino.

A preliminary investigation determined that two tractor-trailers collided while traveling south. The impact caused one of the trucks to overturn and become fully engulfed in flames, Postorino said.

The overturned tractor-trailer was carrying chocolate chip cookies, while the second truck was hauling fresh food products.

No injuries were reported at the scene, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.
