Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A traffic stop in Clinton Township last month led to the drug-related arrest of a Brooklyn man, according to Clinton Township Police Chief Thomas A. DeRosa.

On December 8, 2024, an officer observed a red Toyota Prius with an altered license plate and failing to maintain its lane, DeRosa said.

After stopping the vehicle on Route 31 South near Regional Road, the officer spoke with the driver, identified as Davit Kandelaki, 34, of Brooklyn, NY. During the interaction, the officer observed a Suboxone strip, a controlled dangerous substance, which Kandelaki allegedly did not have a prescription for, according to DeRosa.

Kandelaki was charged with possession of Suboxone and having fictitious plates. He was released pending a future court appearance, DeRosa said.
