Trapped driver airlifted after crash on Route 206 in Sussex County
HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A driver was airlifted to a trauma center after becoming trapped in a crash Sunday morning on Route 206 near the entrance to Walmart in Hampton Township, authorities said.
The crash was reported at about 6:40 a.m. May 3, when the Sussex County Sheriff’s 911 Center received multiple calls about a motor vehicle accident with a trapped occupant.
Fire and rescue units from Hampton, Newton, Stillwater and Fredon responded to the scene. Officials said the first arriving chief confirmed that one driver was trapped.
Newton squad, the first rescue unit on scene, performed the extrication. After the driver was freed, emergency medical personnel transported the patient to a nearby landing zone, where Atlantic Air 1 flew the individual to a regional trauma center.
A second person involved in the crash was transported by ground ambulance to a local medical center, authorities said.
Emergency crews operated at the scene for about an hour before returning to service. The incident was turned over to New Jersey State Police for further investigation.
