Tree falls on car in Hunterdon County, trapping driver

ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A tree fell on a car along Route 579 in Hunterdon County Tuesday afternoon, trapping the driver, according to Quakertown Fire Company.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., first responders, along with mutual aid partners, were dispatched to Route 579 and Cooks Cross Road in Alexandria Township for a report of a car struck by a falling tree, with a trapped and injured driver inside.

Upon arrival, first responders immediately began patient care and vehicle extrication using hydraulic rescue tools. Crews stabilized the car, removed the side, flapped the roof, cut the steering wheel, and extricated the driver in under nine minutes.

A request for a medical helicopter was denied due to weather conditions, so the driver was transported by ambulance and HMC paramedics to St. Luke’s Hospital. The current condition of the patient is unknown.

The fire Company thanked an off-duty South Branch EMT who stopped during the driving rainstorm, secured the vehicle, and assisted with patient care until the driver was safely extricated.

The New Jersey State Police are investigating the accident.
