Two arrested after months-long narcotics investigation in Sussex County

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Two men were arrested and suspected crack cocaine was seized following a months-long narcotics investigation in Newton, police said.

Detectives from the Newton Police Department, working with the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force, executed a search warrant May 28 at a Spring Street location.

The Sparta Police Department and Franklin Police Department also assisted with the operation, which police said stemmed from an investigation into alleged narcotics distribution activity.

Police arrested Timothy McClain, 44, of Newton, and Andre “Red” Upshaw, 40, of Paterson.

During the search, authorities recovered approximately 13.41 grams of suspected crack cocaine, police said.

McClain was charged with manufacturing, distributing or dispensing a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Upshaw was charged with manufacturing, distributing or dispensing a controlled dangerous substance.

Both men were lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
