Two charged after traffic stop leads to parole violation arrest in Morris County
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A routine traffic stop in Washington Township led to multiple charges and the arrest of a parole violator, according to the Washington Township Police Department.
Police said officers recently stopped a vehicle on Drakestown Road after observing traffic violations. During the stop, officers determined the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured, and that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. The vehicle was impounded, authorities said.
Further investigation revealed the driver, a 32-year-old man from Washington Township whose identity was not released, allegedly provided false identifying information to officers. Once his true identity was confirmed, he was taken into custody and charged with multiple motor vehicle violations, along with a criminal complaint for providing false information to law enforcement. The matter is pending in Washington Township Municipal Court, police said.
Officers also determined that a second individual at the scene, a 29-year-old woman from Washington Township whose identity was not released, allegedly provided false information in an attempt to conceal the driver’s identity. She was issued a criminal complaint for hindering apprehension, also pending in municipal court, according to police.
Police said the investigation later revealed the driver had an extensive criminal history involving the use of multiple aliases and was in violation of parole conditions. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued by the New Jersey State Parole Board.
A short time later, officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, the New Jersey State Parole Board and the Washington Township Police Department located and arrested the man in connection with the outstanding warrant. He is currently being held pending further court proceedings.
