Two charged in attempted Morris County home invasion
MORRIS PLAINS BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A Newark man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted home invasion that occurred earlier this year in Morris Plains, according to police.
Police announced the arrest of Jahad S. Clark, 19, following an investigation into an attempted forced entry at a borough residence on Jan. 3.
Police said patrol officers responded to the home at approximately 3:21 a.m. after receiving a report of an attempted break-in. The homeowner provided information about the incident before the suspects fled the area in a vehicle.
Following an investigation by the Morris Plains Police Detective Bureau, with assistance from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities identified Clark as a suspect.
Clark has been charged with attempted residential burglary, attempted motor vehicle burglary, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, employing the use of a juvenile in a crime and conspiracy.
Police said a juvenile also has been charged in connection with the incident.
After a warrant was issued, Clark was taken into custody on May 26 and remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
“The safety and security of our residents is our absolute highest priority,” said Chief of Police Michael Koroski. “Thanks to the diligent work of the Detective Bureau and the quick response of our Patrol Division, this case concluded with an arrest. We also want to thank the community members who stand by the important work that all of our officers perform.”
Koroski also commended the investigative and legal staff of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section for their assistance during the investigation.
Authorities reminded residents to remain vigilant, keep doors and windows locked and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
